Job Summary

The Mid-Level Frontend Developer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing user-facing web applications that are visually appealing, responsive, and deliver an excellent user experience. The role holder will work closely with UI/UX designers, back-end developers, and product teams to translate designs and requirements into high-quality front-end code, ensuring performance, accessibility, and consistency across the organization's digital products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain responsive, user-friendly web interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, in line with UI/UX design specifications and brand guidelines.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented front-end code, adhering to established coding standards and best practices.
  • Build and maintain reusable components and front-end libraries for future use, using modern frameworks and libraries such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Translate UI/UX wireframes and mockups into high-quality, pixel-perfect, and accessible code that renders consistently across browsers and devices.
  • Collaborate with back-end developers to integrate front-end components with RESTful and GraphQL APIs and other back-end services.
  • Optimise web applications for maximum speed, scalability, and performance across different devices, browsers, and screen sizes.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs, providing input and feedback during the design process.
  • Implement and follow front-end security best practices, protecting applications against common client-side vulnerabilities.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive technical feedback to maintain code quality across the team.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, and technical issues in existing front-end applications.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests for front-end code, using tools such as Jest, Mocha, or Cypress, to ensure application reliability.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and refactor existing front-end code, ensuring continued functionality, performance, and compliance with current standards.
  • Collaborate with the product manager, business analyst, designers, and QA specialist to translate requirements into well-engineered front-end solutions.
  • Support the CI/CD pipeline for front-end deployments and follow DevOps practices to streamline the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Leverage AI tools and coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) to enhance development speed, code quality, and problem-solving efficiency.
  • Stay current with emerging front-end technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices, applying relevant advancements to improve the quality and efficiency of software delivery.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and front-end frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
  • Working knowledge of TypeScript and modern front-end build tools (e.g., Webpack, Vite, Babel).
  • Proficiency in responsive and mobile-first design principles, ensuring interfaces work seamlessly across devices.
  • Experience consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs and handling asynchronous data in front-end applications.
  • Proficiency in version control systems and branching strategies (e.g., Git, GitFlow).
  • Experience with front-end testing tools and frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Cypress, React Testing Library).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and basic containerisation concepts (e.g., Docker) as they relate to front-end deployment.
  • Understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and front-end performance optimisation techniques.
  • Understanding of front-end security principles and common client-side vulnerabilities (e.g., XSS, CSRF).
  • Strong knowledge of UI/UX design concepts and the ability to implement visually consistent, accessible front-end interfaces (WCAG standards).
  • Familiarity with state management libraries and tools (e.g., Redux, Zustand, Vuex, Context API).
  • Basic understanding of back-end technologies and databases sufficient to collaborate effectively with back-end developers.

 

 

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Frontend Developer, Web Developer, or in a similar role, with a demonstrable track record of building responsive, user-facing web applications.
  • Minimum of a 2.2 in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications are an advantage, including: Meta Front-End Developer Certificate, freeCodeCamp Front-End Development Certification, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, or equivalent. UI/UX or web accessibility-related certifications are also desirable.
